Your scanner does not have enough power

As far as Sundays go, this one was pretty productive for me. Normally when I set goals for a day, they seem to be around the realm of:

  1. Play video game
  2. Read book
  3. Organize comics
  4. Try to find a reason to leave the house for a couple hour

and I had none of that going on today. Well O.K., I played video games and read from my book… and organized my comics… BUT I did not go out for a frivilous errand just to escape my parents’ home. NAY.

Because I am broke.

Which puts a hamper on plans to complete the urgent shopping list of:

  • Cigars?
  • Nalgene

so I remained landlocked. But rather than let that make my day be dull and unproductive (which is a state of being I’m finding all too easy for us post-college people to slide into) I put my time to use.

My comic site, nickmongo.com, has been broken for some time now after I made a boo boo and overwrote some important files while updating Word Press. So I went ahead and– O.K. it is still broken, but I made large leaps on my redesign of the site, which I’m trying to keep on the dee el until it is done and ready to be implemented.

The new design is a lot simpler which I think makes for a better website. There was always a little bit of a problem with the current design as I tried to figure out what to do with all the space and columns the template gave me. None of that fluff with the new design.

Following that, someone is coming to look at my old car tomorrow and maybe end up buying it so I clean the whole thing out and it a sparkle-y lie. I’m trying to be as honest as we can with the guy coming down but there are only so many bad things you can say about a vehicle before the person thinks it might be personal.

I also did some old fashioned drawing today, which is always a joy once I start but it seems like such a steep hill to climb in order to begin putting pencil to paper. I’m drawing some stuff for a comic contest good old Philly’s City Paper is having. If you live in the area, go a head and submit you own goodies. Details are here.

Finally, at some point during the day I had a dazzling plan involving T-Shirts and spray paint and after I had gathered all I needed from the t-shirt angle of the plan I realized the spray paint portion fell short.

I had no spray paint.

So this plan of all plans will have to wait for later.

What I learned today: If I ask my mom if she has any spray paint she will say “No, but I can pick up some for you tomorrow,” with no questions asked. With my track record involving unthought-out plans using permanent markings, this makes my mom very cool.

Let the fireworks be my light

Here’s a list of what I did today–

  1. Woke up, did yoga, attempted to meditate (instead realized the lines in the wood of my bed banister look like hot dogs).
  2. Had breakfast, sat outside with tea and listened to podcasts.
  3. Closed my accounts with a bank, other errands.
  4. Walked to the river and got so turned around I started laying in a field of grass thinking it was best to just spend the night there.

Number four was where things got a little wonky with me. I seemed to have underestimated the length of steps it takes to get from my house to the river while overestimating my own sense of direction, which really after so many times getting lost in Walmarts should not happen at this point of my life. I made some good honest efforts to find my way back to my development (efforts included walking up hills, discovering that road lead to a culdesac, cursing, repeating). Eventually though, I had to admit defeat and call my little sister for a ride before the monsters got me.

“Hello?”

“Hey.”

“Carly, this is Nick, can you come pick me up?”

“What? Where are you?”

“I’m at the river?”

“Why are you all the way out there?”

“Because I wanted to take a walk and then I wound up here and then I got lost and now its all dark and I am scared.”

What I learned today: If you walk diagonally away from it and try not to make too much eye contact, a rabbit will not hop away. He will however be absolutely terrified during this entire procedure and the look on his face will make you feel bad for not being a carrot.
